Am I the only one who still thinks it's bizarre that Conan the Barbarian is the governor of my state? But there he stands, as big as life, on the dais at the Republican National Convention.

I actually kind of like Arnold. I didn't vote for him because I opposed the recall that resulted in his election — I believe recalls in the absence of criminal conduct are an anti-democratic (small "d") concept — but he seems to be doing a decent job. I'll even consider voting for him when he's up for reelection.
It's certainly to California's benefit to have a point man who's internationally well-known and well-liked. But that doesn't mean it's not weird that our state's highest elected official is an action figure.
